About Registration and Tryouts
Q: If there is more than one day of tryouts listed for my child’s age group, is he or she expected to attend all days?
A: Players are expected to attend all tryout dates for a complete evaluation. Please inform us if your child will not be able to attend one of the dates listed.
Q: Are players expected to register for tryouts?
A: All players are required to register at www.bacbasketball.org prior to tryouts. Unregistered participants will be charged a $10 fee at the door.
Q: How will I know if my child has made a team?
A: Rosters will be posted within 24-48 hours of the last tryout on our website.
Q: What do I do if my child has made a team?
A: Congratulations! You will need to confirm your child’s spot on the team by clicking “Confirm Player” on the roster page. A $100 deposit to guarantee your child’s position on the team will be needed at the time of confirming. This deposit will be subtracted from the first month’s dues.
Q: Are there any other payments that I need to make aside from the deposit when my child has been selected for a team?
A: Yes. If your child is a new player, you will need to purchase a New Player Uniform Package. If your child is a returner, you will need the Returning Player Package. If a returning player needs a new uniform, they should contact kguilbeaux@beachampion.org.
Q: What happens if my child doesn’t make one of your teams?
A: If your child doesn’t make one of our teams initially, there is still a chance that he or she can make the team. If you would like your child to be considered in the case of a roster spot becoming available, please fill out the information in the player wait list box. Please indicate your child’s name, grade, and parent email address. We will email you if a roster spot becomes available
About Tournament/Game Play
Q: When and where will the games be played?
A: We usually aren’t made aware of the specific location and times of games until the Wednesday or Thursday before the tournament. We may know of the general area that games will be held (i.e. San Francisco, the Peninsula, San Jose, etc.) but not exact locations. When I receive the information, I'll format it in a way that is easier to read and send out in a mass email.
Q: How does playing time work?
A: AAU is different from CYO when it comes to playing time; we are not restricted to playing every player an equal amount. Playing time is based on a meritocracy: those who have earned playing time (based on attendance, skill, ability to play within our system, etc.) will receive playing time. Please do not approach a coach before or after a game regarding your child's minutes played (especially during the first tournament). The best approach is to have your child ask the coach directly what he or she needs to work on to earn more playing time.
Q: Is there a fee to attend games?
A: Yes. Most tournaments charge $5 - $7 per day. I'm not a fan of it, but it is out of my control.
Q: How long are the games?
A: Games usually last from 45 min to an hour in duration.
Q: How early do I need to have my child at the gym?
A: I leave that up to my coaches, but usually we advise arriving 20 - 30 minutes before the first game’s start time to be safe.
Q: Do we need to stay at the gym the entire day?
A: No, you are free to leave in between games. Some tournaments provide long breaks between games, unfortunately.
Q: Are most tournaments one or two days?
A: Most tournaments are two days but we will also play in one-day tournaments. Certain tournaments use bracket play, so our Sunday game will be determined on how we play on Saturday.
